A TEAM OF VISIONARIES

Meet the team of architects tasked with re-imagining this vacant stretch on the northwest edge of Downtown.

We’ve tapped renown architecture firm SOM, widely considered one of the top architecture firms in the world. The Los Angeles-based SOM team will be led by Paul Danna, who has an extensive track record with adaptive re-use and ground-up development projects throughout Southern California. Projects include the Pen Factory in Santa Monica, the Desmond adaptive re-use in downtown Los Angeles and the 100 West Walnut project in Old Pasadena.

The open space, landscaping plan and other public spaces will be designed by a team led by James Corner, Founder and CEO of award-winning firm Field Operations. Corner is responsible for the design of some of the world’s most important public urban spaces, including the High Line in New York City, Chicago’s Navy Pier, Hong Kong’s Salisbury Gardens and San Francisco’s Presidio New Parklands project (currently in the design phase).

Kengo Kuma, one of Japan’s foremost architects and architectural scholars, will design the 98-room boutique hotel. Kuma complements the design team with his architectural philosophy, which focuses on the importance of light, materials, transparency, and a fundamental respect for a building’s surroundings and context. This will be Kuma’s first major project in Los Angeles.

Led by Stanley Saitowitz, Natoma brings to the project an approach focused on architecture’s systematic relationship with the city. Saitowitz is a celebrated architect with significant experience designing mixed-use and multi-family residential projects.
